Does your home have a large basement? Most people tend to use their basements as storage units without any form of organization so not only they can’t find anything they are looking for all the time but the stuff they keep stored in their basement takes a lot more space than it normally would. Are you one of those people or do you want to do something else with your basement? Perhaps something a bit more useful? When it comes to basement developments, there are plenty of ideas that you can look at. Of course, the most common one is to transform it into a large storage area with plenty of shelves to keep all of your stuff organized properly, but we’ve had something a bit more entertaining in mind. In the end, you can combine a storage area with any of the ideas we have listed below. An empty basement with hardwood floors and stairs.

The Ontario Building Code 2012 requires a minimum ceiling height of 1950mm over the entire floor areas and anywhere that is typically used as a means of egress, such as headroom areas over the stairs. This could vary depending on the shape of the ceiling areas or project specific requirements. Often, HVAC ducts or low beams in the basement create height restrictions which don't allow the minimum required height to be achieved. In those cases, HVAC and structural modifications may be required to provide or exceed the minimum required height. Creative layout plans can also hide some of the clearance deficiencies and minimize the changes required. Send an email to info@civilcan.ca if you have any questions specific to your basement or call 416-890-9048 to schedule a free site visit and initial project assessment.
